CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 9/10 Harvard (8-3-0, 5-3-0 ECAC Hockey) scored three goals in the game's opening four minutes on its way to a commanding 5-0 victory over Union (2-15-1, 0-9-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Kristin Della Rovere,
Dominique Petrie,
Becca Gilmore,
Taze Thompson and
Anne Bloomer notched a goal apiece for Harvard, while first-year netminder,
Alex Pellicci, recorded her first career shutout in just her second collegiate start.
The game began with a flurry as Harvard got the scoring started just 44 seconds in when junior
Kristin Della Rovere was the beneficiary of a well-placed pass by
Becca Gilmore. Less than two minutes later, senior
Dominique Petrie scored her sixth of the season, snapping a one-timer off a dish from
Keely Moy into the back of the cage. The Crimson would go on to score its third goal at 3:44 in period number one as Gilmore beat Union goalie Olivia Rinzel to make it 3-0. Harvard's offense remained relentless and was able to strike for the fourth time at 12:46 when a shot from defender
Maryna Macdonald produced a rebound that was swept home by first-year
Taze Thompson. A change in net ensued for the Dutchwomen, with Sophie Matsoukas entering the game.
The frenetic pace eased a bit in period number two. The frame's only goal was scored on the power play by Harvard's
Anne Bloomer, who capitalized on a rebound in front for her seventh goal this season and sixth in the last seven games. Union had an opportunity of its own late in the second period when it earned a five-on-three power play chance, but the Dutchwomen were unable to convert before the two-skater advantage was thwarted by a Union penalty.
No goals were scored in the game's final 20 minutes despite Harvard firing 15 shots on goal.
