GLENDALE, Colo. – The USA Women's XV's Rugby National Team included six from the Harvard women's rugby program on its roster for the 2021 Summer Daily Training Environment. Just 43 athletes were invited to attend the camp which begins tomorrow (June 17) and runs to July 11 at the Rugby Town National Training Center.
With the 2021 Rugby World Cup postponed until 2022 due to COVID-19, this residency will culminate with an inner squad Stars vs Stripes competition, an invaluable opportunity as the USA Eagles continue their preparation for the Rugby World Cup.
"Selections are increasingly challenging," said USA Rugby head coach Rob Cain. "The players' mindset shift in terms of training to win alongside their evolving peer to peer transfer are bringing out the best form of inner competition we could hope for. This is critical in terms of setting the players up for success for our World Cup aspirations in 2022 and beyond."
Seniors
Cassidy Bargell and
Erica Jarrell, along with alumnae Jenny Kronish '19, Maya Learned '18 and Shelby Lin '14, will join assistant coach
Sylvia Braaten, who is leading the strength and conditioning program.
"It's fantastic to see another round of the residency program with USA Rugby, given the challenges COVID-19 has presented," said Harvard head coach
Mel Denham. "We are beyond excited to see the hard work of our current athletes and alum pay off on this stage. We also love seeing the incredible work of
Sylvia Braaten on the National Stage as well. They have all worked hard to earn these opportunities and I am certain they will push the limits and make the most out of their training and time."
This will mark the second extended residency for the six Crimson representatives, who participated in a 7-week training block at the Rugby Town National Training Center from March 13 to May 2. All athletes are working towards making their first World Cup appearance.
