Women’s Volleyball Edged by Villanova, Northeastern in Final Day of Northeastern Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. – Closing out the Northeastern Tournament, the Harvard women's volleyball team (1-5, 0-0) dropped both of its contests to Villanova and Northeastern today, Sept. 11. The Crimson suffered a 3-0 setback to Villanova in its first match of the day, before battling Northeastern to five sets to conclude the weekend.
 
Harvard vs. Villanova
The Crimson fell to Villanova by set scores of 21-25, 21-25 and 23-25. Junior captain Jaimie Rao led the Crimson attack with nine kills, while sophomore Katie Vorhies followed closely behind with eight. Sophomore Ashley Wang and first-year Corinne Furey added six kills apiece. Aiding the Crimson's offensive efforts, Wang and first-year Rocky Aguirre each dished out 14 assists.
 
In the backcourt, first-year Lindsey Zheng led the Crimson's defense with 15 digs. Sophomore Olivia Cooper added support at the net, registering a team-high four blocks.
 
Harvard Highlights
- Rao recorded just one error on nine kills to register a .381 hitting percentage.
- Aguirre posted three service aces. 

Harvard vs. Northeastern
Harvard battled Northeastern to five sets, ultimately dropping a 3-2 decision by set scores of 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 18-25 and 12-15. For the second-straight match of the day, Jaimie Rao dominated the Crimson's offense, setting a new career-high 22 kills. Sophomores Ariana White and Ashley Wang joined Rao in double-digits, each recording 10 kills. Wang registered her first career triple-double, leading the Crimson with 28 assists and adding 13 digs to her tally as well on the defensive end.
 
First-year Lindsey Zhang continues to guide Harvard in the backcourt, recording a team-high 22 digs. The Crimson recorded a team total 23 blocks, seven of which came from sophomore Ariana White.
 
Harvard Highlights
- Wang recorded her first triple-double of her career with 28 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills.
- Sophomore Ava Rauser and Wang each contributed two service aces against the Huskies.
- The Crimson hit at a match-high .375 clip in set two on 19 kills and just four errors. 

Up Next
Harvard will travel to Washington, D.C. for the Howard Invitational, Sept. 17-18. The Crimson will first take on Oregon and Howard on Friday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The team will then close out the tournament against American on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
