Goals from Agnew, Caloia Propel No. 21 Women’s Soccer Past Monmouth, 4-1

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Two goals apiece from senior Murphy Agnew and junior Angela Caloia propelled No. 21 Harvard University women's soccer past Monmouth University, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.
 
The nationally ranked Crimson (4-0-1) scored twice in the final 21 minutes of the first half and added two more goals inside the final 15 minutes of the second stanza to top the host Hawks (4-3-0) – winners of the MAAC tournament for four straight seasons from 2016-19. The Crimson maintained an undefeated record through the first five matches of the season for the first time since 1996.
 
Agnew opened the game's scoring at the 24:51 mark, scoring off an assist from junior Ava Lung. Heading into halftime, Caloia doubled the Crimson's lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute with assists from first-years Josefine Hasbo and Nicola Golen. The Hawks cut the margin to 2-1 in the 50th minute on a goal from Lauren Karabin before Caloia extended the Crimson's advantage back to two goals with a tally in the 76th minute off an assist from sophomore Taylor Fasnacht. Agnew capped the scoring with a marker in the 86th minute.
 
Harvard Highlights
  • Junior Angela Caloia registered her team-high fourth and fifth goals of the year and leads the program with 11 points on the season. She has scored in four of the Crimson's first five games on the year and now has 11 career goals. Caloia netted her second game-winning goal of the season and the fourth of her career. She posted two goals in a game for the first time in her career.
  • Senior Murphy Agnew scored her second and third goals of the season and has recorded three goals in her last two games. Agnew notched her 15th and 16th career goals. She registered her fourth career brace and first since Oct. 26, 2019 against Princeton.
  • Junior Ava Lung tallied her second assist of the year and her second assist in as many games, posting the helper on Agnew's opening goal.
  • First-year Josefine Hasbo recorded her second assist of the season and has posted points in four of the Crimson's five contests on the year. She has six points on the season on two goals and two assists.
  • First-year Nicola Golen notched her first collegiate point on her first career assist.
  • Sophomore Taylor Fasnacht tallied her second assist of the season and now has six points on the year on two goals and two assists. She has registered points in each of the team's last four games.
  • Junior goalkeeper Hannah Gardner did not allow a goal in 45 minutes of play in the first half. Sophomore goalie Anna Karpenko made two saves in the second half to close out the victory.
  • For the match, Harvard held advantages in shots (12-7) and shots on goal (8-3) while the two teams each took four corner kicks.
