Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Four-Goal First Period Helps No. 6/8 Women’s Ice Hockey to 6-2 Win vs. No. 10/10 Clarkson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Anne Bloomer scored two first-period goals while Kristin Della Rovere registered four points in the opening 20 minutes to help propel No. 6/8 Harvard (15-5, 12-3 ECAC Hockey) past No. 10/10 Clarkson (18-5-3, 9-4-1 ECAC Hockey), 6-2 on Friday night at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

The win was the first for the Crimson vs. the Golden Knights since 2013, ending a 14-game winless drought vs. the northern New Yorkers. It was also the first home victory over Clarkson since 2011 and extends the team's current ECAC Hockey win-streak to nine games.

The Crimson scored just one minute into the game when senior Becca Gilmore converted off a centering pass from Bloomer to make it 1-0 in favor of the home team. Della Rovere soon added the next goal for Harvard at 3:53, sliding a puck toward net that ricocheted off a defender's skate before finding its way into the Clarkson cage.

The first period flurry continued when Clarkson's Florence Lessard got her team on the board at 6:12, cutting the lead in half. Bloomer had the response for Harvard, however, scoring her 14th of the year at 10:21. Della Rovere chased down the puck off a dump into the offensive zone and slid a crafty backhand pass right to the tape of Bloomer, who flipped it home before Clarkson goalie Michell Pasiechnyk could react. Bloomer struck again at 18:31 in the opening frame, this time on the power-play as the junior swiftly cleaned up the rebound off a shot by Della Rovere.

For all the goalscoring in period number one, there were no tallies to be had in the middle frame as the score remained 4-1 through 40 minutes. Harvard's Becky Dutton stopped all 14 shots sent her way in the period, while the Crimson were unable to get any of its 12 shots on net past Pasiechnyk.

The offensive resumed once again in the final period. First it was Harvard's Dominique Petrie netting her eighth of the season at 3:19 with a snappy wrist shot from the between the circles. Clarkson's Kristina Schuler made if 5-2 with her goal at 4:26 in the third, but it was the Crimson who would get the night's final goal, as Brooke Jovanovich scored her second in the last three games when the senior jammed a loose rebound across the goal line at 18:02.
