Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Comeback Effort at No. 10 Princeton Falls Just Short in 4-2 Loss For No. 15 Field Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J. – A valiant comeback effort for No. 15 Harvard field hockey (11-4, 4-1 Ivy) fell just short in a 4-2 loss at No. 10 Princeton (11-4, 5-0 Ivy) on Sunday afternoon at Bedford Field. Sophomore Emily Guckian and junior Siofra Murdoch scored for the Crimson and senior goalkeeper Ellie Shahbo made three saves.

Harvard Highlights

Princeton scored three goals in the opening 10 minutes of the contest to take early control of the game, as Grace Schulze (4:53) and Beth Yeager (6:23) got things started for the Tigers. Sam Davidson's penalty stroke goal at 8:10 made it 3-0.

A wave of Princeton penalty corners followed, with Shahbo making a key stop early in the second quarter to keep the margin at three.

Guckian gave Harvard life later in the frame. First-year Kitty Chapple played a big ball into the circle that Guckian redirected high into the net with 9:13 to play in the second quarter.

The margin remained 3-1 at the break, but Harvard wasted no time making it a one-goal game early in the third quarter.

Harvard maintained possession after a Bronte-May Brough shot off a penalty corner was blocked to the side of the circle. First-year Kate Oliver fed a pass in front of the cage that tipped off Mazarine Broze's stick right to Murdoch, who buried a shot into the back of the net with 12:05 remaining in the third quarter.

The Crimson continued to carry the play for the remainder of the third quarter, but a Princeton goal early in the fourth proved too much to overcome, as Sammy Popper scored with 11:54 left in regulation to make it 4-2.
