HANOVER, N.H. – Harvard women's soccer remained undefeated in Ivy League play this afternoon, coming from behind to defeat the Dartmouth Big Green, 2-1. The Crimson (10-1-3, 4-0-2 Ivy) came away with its second comeback victory in a row thanks to goals from
Hannah Griffin and
Megan Mackey, that were both set up by
Josefine Hasbo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a back-and-forth battle through the first two minutes of the contest Jordan Di Verniero put the first shot on goal in the tenth minute, followed by Hannah Griffin who did the same two minutes later. Both shots were blocked, and the game stayed scoreless.
- Anna Karpenko made her first save of the game 15' into the action, cleaning up a Dartmouth shot attempt off a corner kick.
- The Big Green managed to strike first in the game, getting a goal in the 25th minute of play.
- Ainsley Ahmadian, Di Verniero, Griffin and Fasnacht all put shots on goal throughout the remainder of the period as Harvard outshot Dartmouth 6-3 in the first half.
- Griffin got Harvard on the board 55' into the contest, taking a pass from Hasbo and sneaking it past the Dartmouth goalie to tie the game.
- Hasbo had two more shots goal get saved before Harvard was able to get the go-ahead strike,
- Megan Mackey scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Crimson after Hasbo headed a ball onto the foot of Mackey who drilled a shot into the twine to give Harvard the lead.
- Ainsley Ahmadian's chip pass into Hasbo was also good for an assist on the go-ahead goal 83' into the game.
- The Crimson would come away with the win after holding off the Big Green for the remainder of the contest.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Harvard outshot Dartmouth 26-3 and held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal
- The Crimson didn't allow a single Dartmouth shot attempt in the second half
- Unofficial possession number had Harvard holding the ball for 62-percent of the contest
- Josie Hasbo led the team with six shots and Hannah Griffin had the most shots on goal with three
- Hannah Griffin scored her fifth goal of the season and now has goals in three straight games and points in four of the last six
- Megan Mackey scored her second goal of the season and second career game-winner
- Joesfine Hasbo notched a career high two assists in the win
- Anna Karpenko made two saves in net to backstop the defense
- Taylor Fasnacht, Jade Rose and Lara Schenk all played the full 90 minutes to lead the way defensively
UP NEXT
After a month-long hiatus, Harvard will return to its home field to take on the Columbia Lions in the regular season finale. The Crimson will celebrate senior day before the contest against the Lions that starts at 4 pm on November 5, 2022. The match will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
