CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer ran away with a 5-0 win over the Columbia Lions in its season finale tonight at Jordan Field. The senior class led the way on senior night for the Crimson as
Hannah Griffin,
Angela Caloia and
Hannah Gardner all played excellent games to power their team to the victory.
Harvard completes its first undefeated Ivy League season since 2016 and finishes the regular season with a 11-1-3 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The team honored its seven seniors in a pregame ceremony as a part of the senior day celebration. Hannah Gardner, Hannah Griffin, Lara Schenk, Jordan Di Verniero, Sophie Hirst and Angela Caloia were all honored in the ceremony.
- Hannah Griffin scored the first goal of the game for Harvard in the eighth minute off a beautiful pass from Josefine Hasbo.
- Griffin also assisted on the team's second goal of the game when she fed Angela Caloia for a tally 28' into the contest.
- Senior goalkeeper, Hannah Gardner, made a huge save towards the end of the half to keep Columbia off the scoreboard.
- Hasbo continued to roll over the opposition in the second half, scoring a goal nine minutes into the second frame. The goal was set up by Jade Rose and Lara Schenk who both got their first points of the season.
- Hasbo scored again just six minutes later to boost the Harvard lead to four. The goal was set up by Griffin and Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir.
- Captain Ava Lung also tallied a goal 70' into the action off the assist from Gabby DelPico.
- Gardner cleaned up the only other shot she faced to record her fourth shutout of the season.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Josefine Hasbo notched a game high five points with her two goals and assist.
- Hannah Griffin scored her fourth goal in the past three games and registered two assists to post a career-high four points. She also netted the eventual game-winner.
- Jade Rose tallied two assists in the contest which was also a career high.
- Lara Schenk registered her first point of the season with an assist.
- Ava Lung scored her second goal of the season in the win.
- Angela Caloia scored career goal No. 19 in the win.
- Hannah Gardner made two saves in net to record her fourth shutout of the season.
- The 2022 Crimson move in to tenth all-time in program history with 44 goals scored.
- HWS have now outscored its opponents 25-5 at Jordan Field this season.
