Women's Rugby Loses to Army In Final Minute of Play, 19-21

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Harvard women's rugby lost a nail-biting game against Army this afternoon, 21-19. Harvard led until the final minute, when Army scored a penalty kick to take the lead for good.


HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

· Harvard scored three tries this game, with two in the first half and one in the second. Tries came from Lennox London, Charlotte Gilmour, and Victoria Stanley.

· Chloe Headland made two out of her three conversions. Her second conversion off of Victoria Stanley's try was sensational. 
 

· Harvard put up a great fight, this was the smallest margin of victory for Army so far this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED


· The match was a slow burn in the beginning, with Harvard maintaining possession and trying to find openings in Army's defense.

· Lennox London makes a breakaway and scores the first try of the game. Chloe Headland makes the conversion, 7-0.

· Harvard player received a 10 min yellow card bringing the Crimson down a player. Army lands the penalty bringing score to 7-3 with Harvard still in the lead.

· The Black Knights scored their first try off a drop kick bringing them in the lead, 10-7

· The Crimson still down a player scored a nail-biting try with seconds left in the first half after a few minutes in the goal line by Charlotte Gilmour, giving Harvard the lead, 12-10. 
 

· Halftime score was 12-10 with Harvard in the lead.

· The Crimson did not maintain the lead for long when the Black Knights lands a try right into the second half, score is 15-12.

· With another penalty against Harvard, Army lands their penalty kick making the score 18-12. Harvard was down two players and it is 13 against 15 on the field.

· The yellow card time ran and now Harvard was only down one player bringing it 14 against 15.

· Even with one less player, Victoria Stanley ran to the outside and scored a try after Harvard and Army battled it out in the try zone. Chloe Headland landed a conversion from the far left of the field, making the score 19-18. 
 

· It looked like Harvard was going to come away with the lead and take the win. Within the final two minutes of play Harvard received a penalty but missed the kick. Army and Harvard battled it out in the try zone trying to run out the clock. In the final minute Harvard received another penalty and this time Army scored.

· Final score was 21-19, with Army taking the win.

Harvard will advance to NIRA Semi-Finals on Saturday, Nov. 12 at a location to be determined.
