Men’s Soccer Heads to Boston University on Tuesday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University men's soccer returns to the state of Massachusetts to make the short trip to face off against crosstown rival Boston University on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Nickerson Field.

What to Know

  • Harvard has totaled three student-athletes with double-figure points for the second straight season. Thus far in 2022, senior Martin Vician (11 points), junior Willem Ebbinge (11 points), and sophomore Alessandro Arlotti (10 points) have all crossed the double-figure threshold. Last season, Vician (19), Ebbinge (14), Arlotti (25), and Cornelius Bencsik (12) all reached double-figure point totals.
  • For the season, senior Martin Vician leads Harvard in goals (five) and ranks in a tie for first in points (11). He scored back-to-back braces in games against Northeastern and Quinnipiac. Vician ranks second in the Ivy League in goals and fourth in points.
  • Junior Willem Ebbinge paces the program in assists (five) and ranks tied for first on the Crimson with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Ebbinge stands first in the conference in assists and fourth in points. He has notched points in seven of the Crimson's nine games this season.
  • Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti ranks fifth in the Ivy League with four assists on the season and has compiled 10 points on three goals and four assists. He has posted points in five of his last six matches. Arlotti stands 10th in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (1.89).
  • A total of 14 different players have tallied points for Harvard on the season. The Crimson tallied 10 players with points in its 6-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 24.
  • As a team, Harvard has established advantages in shots (153-112), shots on goal (76-47), and corner kicks (61-37) on the year.
  • The Crimson ranks third in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (8.44), fourth in assists per game (3.11), 13th in shots per game (17.00), and 16th in points per game (7.56).
  • Harvard's goalkeepers have posted a 1.67 goals-against average and two shutouts thus far on the season. Senior goalie Oskar Nilsson has notched a 1.67 GAA and one shutout over eight games played.
  • The Crimson totaled six goals in a 6-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 24. Six different Crimson – senior Ale Gutierrez, junior Willem Ebbinge, sophomore Marko Isakovic, junior Nik White, senior Martin Vician, and first-year Matus Vician – netted a goal in the game. The six goals marked Harvard's most in a game since a 6-0 win over Penn on Nov. 14, 2015. A total of 10 Harvard players registered points in the contest.
  • First-year Matus Vician earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 26 after posting four points on a goal and two assists in the Crimson's 6-0 victory over Fairfield. The points marked the first of Vician's collegiate career.
  • Harvard earned a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac on Sept. 17 behind senior Martin Vician's second straight brace alongside a goal from senior Ale Gutierrez.
  • Harvard pulled out a dramatic victory against Bryant as senior Nico Garcia-Morillo scored the game-winning goal with 2.5 seconds remaining to lift the Crimson to a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs at Jordan Field on Sept. 6.
  • Harvard opened its 2022 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut State in its home opener on Sept. 3. Sophomore Alessandro Arlotti and junior Willem Ebbinge provided the goals while senior goalkeeper Oskar Nilsson recorded the shutout.
  • Harvard leads Boston University in the all-time series, 27-16-8.
  • Boston University has posted a 2-2-6 overall record and an 0-1-3 Patriot League mark on the season. The Terriers have played in four straight draws, including a 1-1 tie with Navy in its last outing.
