CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior forward
Alex Laferriere scored a pair of goals, and sophomore forward
Matthew Coronato and senior defenseman
Ryan Siedem each added three assists to help lead No. 15/15 Harvard men's ice hockey (3-0-0, 3-0-0 ECAC Hockey) to a 5-2 win over Brown (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night (Nov. 4) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. First-year goaltender
Aku Koskenvuo made 21 saves in his collegiate debut in net to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Two power play goals off the stick of Laferriere put Harvard up by a pair after 20 minutes.
The first came on a partial man advantage for the Crimson, it's first power play opportunity of the night in the opening minutes of the game. Laferriere redirected a diagonal pass from sophomore forward
Matthew Coronato into the back of the net at 6:28 to put Harvard up 1-0.
In the closing minutes of the period, with Harvard on another power play, junior forward
Sean Farrell made a short pass into the high slot for a Laferriere one-timer that beat Brown goaltender Mathieu Caron at 18:14 to make it 2-0.
The Crimson made it 3-0 early in the second period as first-year
Casey Severo scored his first collegiate goal on a breakaway. Senior defenseman
Henry Thrun fired a perfect seam pass to Severo, who cut in alone and beat Caron over the glove at 2:52 to make it 3-0.
Brown responded as Gavin Puskar put in a rebound at 4:22, then earned a 5-on-3 power play for over a minute moments later. But Harvard held Brown scoreless on its chances with the man advantage and maintained a two-goal lead heading into the third period.
Junior forward
Sean Farrell (goal, assist) scored a shorthanded goal on a break down the left wing at 5:57 of the third period to put the Crimson up three.
After Brown cut the lead to 4-2 at 7:01, Harvard added insurance on a late power play goal by
