Mia Biotti’s Late Goal Lifts Women’s Hockey to Victory Over St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – The Harvard women's hockey team came out victorious after an all-out battle on the ice at Appleton Arena. Facing off against the RV St. Lawrence Saints (9-11-0, 3-4-0 ECACH), the Crimson (4-8-2, 3-5-2 ECACH) walked off with a win after Mia Biotti scored her first goal of the season with under a minute left in regulation.
 
Ellie Bayard scored the game-tying goal in the second period to put Harvard in position to strike. Alex Pellicci backstopped a solid outing from the defense, making 36 saves.
 
With the win, the Crimson added three points in conference play, and now currently sit tied for fourth place in the conference with 13 heading into the holiday break.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Harvard offense got off to a fast start, attempting four shots in the first two minutes of play. They were all turned aside by SLU, as the game remained scoreless.
  • Both sides traded long offensive possessions for the next ten minutes until the media timeout. 11:05 into the period, the Crimson trailed in shots on target, 4-3.
  • St. Lawrence got on the scoreboard first with a goal at 4:32 in the period.
  • The Saints took a 1-0 lead into the break, leading in shots on goal, 7-3.
  • Harvard's penalty kill came up big in the opening minute of the second period, holding off SLU to keep the game at 1-0.
  • Ellie Bayard tied the game up just two minutes later, with a powerplay goal 2:43 into the action. Jade Arnone threw a shot on net that was tipped by Bayard past the keeper to tie up the game.
  • Alex Pellicci made 15 saves in the second period, including four big saves down the stretch to hold off the Saints and go into the second intermission tied at one.
  • The third period was a defensive showcase, as both teams and goaltenders played excellent in the frame. Pellicci stopped another 15 shots in the period to hold off the Saints.
  • With under a minute to go, Mia Biotti ripped a shot from the point that found the back of the net and gave Harvard the lead. Biotti's first goal of the season could not have come at a better moment, as the Crimson went up 2-1, 19:30 into the third period.
  • Harvard walked-off with a clutch victory and added another three points to its resume as the team will now head into Winter break on a high note.

  • Harvard blocked 23 shots in the contest, the second-most this season
  • Jade Arnone blocked four shots in the second frame, the most in a period this season by a Crimson defender
  • The Harvard penalty kill stopped the only SLU powerplay in the game, extending its PK streak to 10, the longest of the season for the group
  • Kristin Della Rovere led all skaters with 25 faceoff wins 

UP NEXT

Harvard will take a month-long pause from hockey for the holiday break before returning to action on January 6, 2023 at Frozen Fenway. The Crimson and the Quinnipiac Bobcats will square off on the ice at Fenway Park in the 2023 edition of the event. Game and ticket information will be released later this month on gocrimson.com
