Grace Thawley Receives CWPA Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Harvard women's water polo junior captain Grace Thawley has received CWPA Player of the Week, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced today, Feb. 11. Thawley led the Crimson to a 3-1 showing at the Bruno Classic, collecting eight goals, three steals, an assist and eight DKO's.

Thawley, a native of Santa Ana, Calif., led the Crimson with four goals in its 17-4 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday, adding a steal and two DKO's to her tally. Thawley would net her third hat-trick of the season later that day, pouring in three more goals against RV La Salle to go along with 3 DKO's. She also got on the scoresheet in the 13-5 win over No. 24 Cal Baptist on Saturday, while picking up a pair of steals, 3 DKO's and an assist in the loss to No. 14 Wagner. Thawley leads the Crimson with 15 goals scored this season through six games, highlighted by a six-goal explosion in the season-opening win at Villanova.

Thawley had received the final CWPA Player of the Week award before the 2020 season was cut short on March 10th. She would go on to receive CWPA All-America Honorable Mention following the season, along with fellow 2022 captain Zoe Banks. Thawley had collected All-CWPA second team and CWPA All-Tournament second team at the conclusion of her first-year season in 2019.

The Crimson will return to action this weekend, Feb. 12-13, at the Princeton Invitational. Harvard will matchup with Villanova, St. Francis Brooklyn, No. 17 LIU and VMI across the weekend.
