Bonus-Point Wins from Crooks, Conigliaro Push Wrestling Past Brown, 22-12

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First-year Jeffrey Crooks earned a fall at 285 pounds, and sophomore Philip Conigliaro tallied a major decision at 165 pounds as Harvard University wrestling topped Brown University, 22-12, in an Ivy League and EIWA dual meet on Thursday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
 
In its Ivy League finale and final road dual of the year, the Crimson (3-5, 3-5 EIWA, 1-4 Ivy) won six of the dual's 10 bouts, including five of the meet's first seven matchups, to defeat the host Bears (3-9, 2-7 EIWA, 0-5 Ivy).
 
Crooks tallied his second career fall while Conigliaro – ranked No. 7 in the NCAA RPI rankings and No. 15 according to Intermat at 165 pounds – posted his 15th win and second major decision of the season.
 
Junior Beau Bayless (125 pounds), senior Lukus Stricker (149), junior Trevor Tarsi (157), and sophomore Joshua Kim (174) all earned victories via decision. Stricker tallied his 15th win of the year, tying with Conigliaro for the team lead.

Harvard Highlights

  • First-year Jeffrey Crooks picked up his second fall of the year, pinning James Araneo in the second period in 4:06 at 285 pounds. Crooks notched his third win of the year to close out the dual meet and extend Harvard's lead from 16-12 to 22-12.
  • Sophomore Philip Conigliaro – ranked No. 7 in the NCAA RPI rankings and No. 15 according to Intermat at 165 pounds – beat Keegan Rothrock via major decision, 16-5. He improved his record to 15-4 overall and 4-0 in dual competition. Conigliaro scored three takedowns in the first period, one in the second stanza, and three in the final frame on his way to his second major decision of the year.
  • Senior Lukus Stricker – ranked No. 12 in the NCAA RPI at 149 pounds – bested Ricky Cabanillas via a 3-1 decision. He notched a takedown in the first period and an escape in the third en route to the win. Stricker leads the team in wins (15), dual wins (six), and dual points (27).
  • Sophomore Joshua Kim – ranked No. 24 in the NCAA RPI at 174 pounds – captured an 11-7 decision over Drew Clearie. Kim posted his 13th victory of the season. He used two takedowns in the first period alongside a takedown in each of the second and third frames to help propel himself to the win.
  • Junior Beau Bayless recorded a 5-0 shutout win at 125 pounds over Reese Fry. He notched his second straight shutout and tallied his 11th win of the year. Bayless posted a takedown in each of the first and third periods alongside an escape in the second.
  • Junior Trevor Tarsi gained a 10-4 decision against Jack Bokina at 149 pounds for his eighth win of the year. Holding a 3-0 lead through two periods, Tarsi compiled three takedowns and a point for riding time in the final frame.
  • Harvard improved to 58-33-2 all-time vs. Brown.
