CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore
Callie Hem had two goals and three assists, and both
Meredith Langmuir and
Gina-Marie Ricciotti scored hat tricks to lead Harvard women's lacrosse (1-1) to a 13-7 win over Holy Cross (1-2).
Sophomore
Chloe Provenzano made eight saves to earn her first career win. Harvard nearly doubled Holy Cross in shot attempts – 36-20.
Hem had a hand in all four of Harvard's first quarter goals, helping the Crimson run out to a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes.
At 13:19, Hem scored her first of the night, cutting in from the left side, jumping and firing a low shot into the net.
Later in the quarter, Hem drew two defenders, and found Langmuir cutting across the circle for another goal at 8:35.
In the final five minutes, Harvard responded to Holy Cross' first goal of the game with scores from
Charlotte Clark (4:18) and Hem (:20) to make it 4-1.
Harvard continued a four-goal run in the opening minutes of the second quarter. The run was capped off by
Ilana Kofman's first career goal, as Hem made a beautiful pass to a cutting Kofman, who fired a shot from 10 yards out past the Holy Cross goalie at 11:37.
Langmuir capped off her first half hat trick with goals at 7:14 and 6:05, and
Caroline Mullahy scored her second of the season at 3:52 to round out the first half scoring for Harvard.
A low scoring third quarter saw the Crusaders get to within four with two goals in less than a minute, making it 9-5 with 4:10 to play in the frame.
But Harvard's
Riley Campbell made a great run from outside the half circle and beat the Holy Cross goalie high over the shoulder at 3:33 to stop the run and make it 10-5.
Harvard outscored Holy Cross 3-2 in the fourth quarter, with Ricciotti recording her hat trick of goals in the frame to account for the final score.
