Men's Ice Hockey Ends Regular Season on Strong Note with 3-0 Shutout Win at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior goaltender Mitchell Gibson made 28 saves to help lead Harvard men's ice hockey (17-9-3, 14-6-2 ECAC Hockey) to a 3-0 win over Princeton (8-19-2, 7-14-1 ECAC Hockey) in the regular season finale for the Crimson.

Senior forward Jack Donato scored a first period goal to help Harvard get off to a good start, sophomore forward Alex Laferriere added a power play goal, and senior defenseman Marshall Rifai sealed it with an empty net goal in the third period.

Harvard finished the regular season with a 8-2-2 mark in its last 12 games, including a 7-1-1 mark in its last nine ECAC Hockey contests.

The Crimson got off to another good start, outshooting the Tigers by a wide margin in the opening 20 minutes (13-4). Harvard cashed in on one of its numerous scoring chances, as junior Baker Shore won a puck battle in the corner and fed Donato in the slot for a one-timer at 8:17.

Gibson was at his best in the second period, gloving long shots through traffic and stopping several point blank chances for Princeton.

One of his best stops came early in the period on a breakaway for Jack Conlin in the opening minute. Gibson kicked out his left pad to help Harvard say in the lead.

The two teams combined for seven penalties in the second period, with Harvard killing off three Princeton power plays in the frame. The Crimson converted their final chance of the period, as Laferriere's wrist shot beat Princeton goaltender Aiden Porter on the short side at 17:56 to make it 2-0.

Rifai's empty netter with 2:41 to play ended any comeback hopes for the home team.
