CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Turbulent weather conditions throughout the region limited this weekend's competition for Harvard sailing, confining the team to a single day of racing at both the Wood Trophy and St. Mary's Team Race.
The Crimson finished fourth at both team race regattas, posting a 3-4 record at home on the Charles, while going an even 4-4 further south in Maryland.
Saturday at the Wood Trophy brought a variety of conditions including rain, snow and strong winds. Nevertheless, a full round robin was completed among the eight teams. Harvard picked up victories vs. Northwestern, Rhode Island and Vermont while falling to Brown, MIT, Northeastern and Tufts.
The Crimson experimented with a variety of boat combinations.
Eric Hansen,
Dylan Ascencios,
Sarah Burn and
Cordelia Burn each spent time as skippers and were accompanied by crew members
Ariel Wang,
Corinne Lee,
Alexandra Dorofeev,
Matthew Cabot and
Paul Kuechler.
Tufts topped the field with a perfect 7-0 record on the day. No races were conducted on Sunday due to unsafe weather conditions.
Scheduling was reversed at this weekend's St. Mary's Team Race. Lightning prevented racing on Saturday, but Sunday's conditions allowed for a full round robin between the nine participating schools.
Led by skippers
Henry Burnes,
Jonas Nelle and
Lachlain McGranahan, alongside a crew of
Chris Wang,
Pomaika'i Ogata,
Cassia Lee and
Marbella Marlo, the Crimson sailed to a 4-4 record, defeating George Washington, Fordham, Charleston and Coast Guard.
Navy, Penn and Roger Williams finished in a three-way tie at the top of the standings, with the Midshipmen earning the first-place nod via tiebreaker.
