LAKE PLACID, NY – First-year forward
Matthew Coronato scored at 9:18 of overtime to lift No. 17 Harvard men's ice hockey (21-10-3) to its 11
th Whitelaw Cup title with a 3-2 win over No. 6/6 Quinnipiac (31-6-3) in the 2022 ECAC Hockey Championship game.
With the win, Harvard clinched the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will return for the fifth time in the last seven years.
Coronato took a drop pass from first-year defenseman
Ian Moore and fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Quinnipiac goaltender Yaniv Perets to win it.
Coronato was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for his efforts
Junior goaltender
Mitchell Gibson, who was fantastic all game, made a career high 47 saves to earn the win in net.
Harvard got off to a flying start, as Siedem gave the Crimson the early edge on a blast from the point. Senior defenseman
Marshall Rifai made a good play to draw two players on the left point before finding Siedem with a cross-ice pass.
Siedem fired a quick shot that deflected off a Quinnipiac player and into the net at 1:07.
Quinnipiac answered minutes later, as TJ Friedmann scored on a 2-on-1 rush, keeping the puck for a well-placed shot at 5:24.
Harvard's penalty kill prevented Quinnipiac from doing any more damage, killing off two penalties in the opening 20-plus minutes.
Then midway through the second period, with Harvard on its second power play of the night, Moore helped the Crimson regain the lead.

Matthew Coronato to the top of the point found Moore in stride for a one-timer, that beat an unsuspecting Perets at 9:11 to make it 2-1.
Harvard held the lead until late in the third period, when the Bobcats scored on the power play with an extra attacker on with 6:16 to play in the game.
But it was the Crimson who prevailed, clinching the program's 26
th NCAA Tournament bid.
