Men’s Volleyball Outlasts Saint Francis in Four-Set Thriller

LORETTO, Pa. – The Harvard men's volleyball team (9-9, 7-3 EIVA) battled to a four-set victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) tonight on the road at DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pa.
 
The Crimson dropped the first set, before grinding out three straight tiebreak sets for a final score of 23-25, 31-29, 26-24 and 31-29.
 
Harvard had four athletes reach double-digit kills on the night.
 
Campbell Schoenfeld had a monster night for the Crimson, posting a season-high 21 kills on a .439 hitting percentage to go along with five digs and block.
 
Kade McGovern had a night to remember, recording his first-career double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Eric Li reached 11 kills on a .348 hitting percentage as well as six digs, two assists and a service ace.
 
James Bardin tallied a career-high 50 assists with six digs and three kills. Jason Shen reached double-digits for the ninth time this season with 11 digs.
 
Ethan Smith tallied 10 kills at a .389 clip, as well as two digs and an assist. Ryan Hong reached a season-high seven kills on a .333 hitting percentage and added two blocks and a dig.
 
Harvard Highlights
  • The Crimson won the kill battle 64-40, the assist battle 54-41 and the dig battle 43-37.
  • Harvard avenged a 3-1 loss to Saint Francis (Pa.) in February with a 3-1 victory tonight.
  • The Crimson has yet to reach the fifth set in all 18 matches this season.
  • This was Harvard's first time with over 30 points in one set this season (twice).
  • The Crimson reached a .395 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
  • Each of the four sets was decided by just two points.
