Men’s Basketball Closes Season with Loss to Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's basketball fell to Dartmouth, 76-54, at Lavietes Pavilion on Saturday afternoon to close out the season. Noah Kirkwood led all Crimson scorers with 19 points on his senior night, while classmate Kale Catchings added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Spencer Freedman, making his first start of the season, nailed a three-pointer on Harvard's first possession of the game. Both teams struggled from the field in the early stages, combining for a 5-for-19 mark to start the game along with eight turnovers through the first seven minutes. The Big Green (9-16, 6-8 Ivy League) was able to take a 21-7 lead to the under-eight timeout, following a 15-2 run as the Crimson went cold from the field. Evan Nelson connected on a layup before a Noah Kirkwood three-pointer brought Harvard back within single digits. Kirkwood would go into the half leading all scorers with 10 points, as Dartmouth held a 31-21 lead.

Harvard (13-13, 5-9 Ivy League) was able to bring it back within seven points following a Catchings triple and Freedman layup, but the Big Green would respond with an 11-0 run to make it a 44-26 contest with 13:23 remaining. Kirkwood would score seven of Harvard's next 12 across the ensuing five minutes, but Dartmouth continued to answer with baskets and it remained an 18-point game at 56-38 with 8:31 left on the clock. The Crimson was only able to cut it down to a 14-point lead following a Catchings three with 7:06 remaining, as Dartmouth quickly answered with a 9-0 run to ensure the victory.
