PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard University baseball shut out Princeton University in game one, 2-0, before dropping a narrow decision in game two, 4-3, to split an Ivy League doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Clarke Field.

In the first two games of a three-game series, the Crimson (15-17, 6-7 Ivy) used three pitchers to combine for the shutout in game one and did not permit a run after the second inning in game two before the host Tigers (6-25, 3-11 Ivy) held on for the win.

Logan Bravo tallied his fifth homer of 2022 in game two. The Crimson bullpen threw 6.1 innings without allowing a run in the second game.

In game one, the Crimson tallied the game's first run as Jacobsen sent a single up the middle to score Berger in the top of the first. Harvard doubled the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third as Berger blasted a solo home run to right center. Clark did not allow a hit until the sixth inning before Jacobsen and Driver combined for four innings of scoreless relief.

In game two, Bravo opened the game's scoring with a two-run home run to right center field in the top of the first. The Tigers tied the score at 2-2 with two runs in the last of the first and moved ahead 4-2 with a pair of runs in the second. Sophomore
Peter Messervy brought in a run with a ground ball in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3 before neither team scored over the final five frames.
Harvard Highlights: Game 1
- In his first career start, sophomore right-hander Chris Clark tossed 5.0 shutout innings in the win, permitting one hit and one walk with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He faced the minimum 12 batters through four innings and did not allow a hit until the sixth.
- Junior third baseman and right-handed pitcher Will Jacobsen drove in one of the Crimson's two runs on the day, while throwing 3.0 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and two walks with three strikeouts.
- Sophomore right-hander Jay Driver threw a one-two-three bottom of the ninth to secure his fourth save of the season. He tallied two strikeouts in the frame.
- Sophomore shortstop Jake Berger hit a solo home run for his sixth homer of the year and fourth straight game with a homer. Berger scored a pair of runs and worked a walk. He reached base safely for the 26th straight game.
- Junior first baseman Logan Bravo tallied his team-high 12th double of the season while sophomore outfielder Peter Messervy and junior second baseman Hunter Baldwin each posted a hit.
- In the Crimson's third shutout of the season, the Harvard pitching staff totaled 16 strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and three walks. The Crimson faced just 31 batters on 118 pitches.
Harvard Highlights: Game 2
- First-year right-handed pitcher Tanner Smith hurled 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, permitting just one hit and no walks with a career-high six strikeouts.
- Junior left-hander Tim Williams tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
- Junior first baseman Logan Bravo launched a two-run home run in the first inning for his fifth home run of the season and fourth homer since Apr. 16. He notched his seventh multi-RBI game of the year.
- Sophomore shortstop Jake Berger tallied a hit and a run, reaching base safely for the 27th straight game.
- Junior third baseman Will Jacobsen hit his fifth double of the season, while scoring a run.
- Junior second baseman Hunter Baldwin went 2-for-4 for his fourth multi-hit game of the year and second multi-hit game in his last three contests.
- Sophomore center fielder Peter Messervy drove in the Crimson's third run.
- Sophomore Ben Rounds and first-years Peter Levin and Sawyer Feller each added a hit
- The Crimson pitching staff did not allow a walk over the first six innings.
- Harvard's bullpen threw 6.1 innings without allowing a run.
Game Notes
- In game one, Harvard posted its third shutout of the season. The Crimson also registered shutouts against Rice (3-0 on Mar. 4) and UCLA (5-0 on Mar. 19).
- Between the two games, Harvard's pitching staff recorded a 2.12 ERA with 26 strikeouts, while holding the Tigers to a .169 batting average. The Crimson pitchers registered 16 strikeouts in game one and 10 strikeouts in game two.
- Sophomore right-hander Jay Driver lowered his ERA to 1.42 on the season. He has tossed 19.0 innings and given up just three runs. Driver has posted 29 strikeouts to seven walks.
- Junior Will Jacobsen extended his hitting streak to eight games while sophomore Jake Berger moved his hit streak to seven games. Berger has reached base safely in 27 straight games.
- Harvard moved to 149-127-2 all-time vs. Princeton.
