CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior captain
Grace Hulslander and sophomore midfielder
Maddie Barkate each had three goals, but Harvard women's lacrosse (5-7, 3-3 Ivy) fell to No. 12 Princeton (10-3, 5-0 Ivy), 14-9, at Jordan Field on Saturday (April 23).
Harvard led 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but a six goal run for the Tigers to open the final frame put the game out of reach for the Crimson.
Harvard showed resilience early on in the contest, with Hulslander leading the way, scoring all three of her goals in the first half.
With the Crimson down 1-0, Hulslander dove across the middle of the circle for a shot into the short side on a run from behind the net to tie the game at 12:51.
Then at 10:46, Hulslander made another great run from right to left, shooting across her body to put Harvard up 2-1.
Princeton rallied for three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead at 14:11 of the second quarter. But the Harvard defense was excellent the rest of the half, allowing one goal the rest of the quarter.
An underhand diving shot by
Charlotte Clark at 7:30 made it a one goal game. Then Hulslander scored her third of the half on a free position shot from straightaway at 2:29 to make it 5-5 at the break.
Barkate carried Harvard in the third quarter, scoring twice after the two teams traded goals at the start of the frame. Her man-up goal at 9:41, a low shot off a feed from
Caroline Mullahy (two assists), made 7-6. Then Barkate's bounce shot at the 1:00 mark gave Harvard the lead again at 8-7 heading into fourth quarter, before Princeton's late run decided the game.
