Women's Lacrosse Uses Early Offense to Pull Away from BU in 18-8 Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Eight different players scored multiple goals for Harvard women's lacrosse (6-7) in a 18-8 win over Boston University (2-14) at Jordan Field on Tuesday night (April 26).

Junior captain Grace Hulslander led the way with three goals, and Callie Hem, Charley Meier, and Caroline Mullahy each had two goals and an assist. In addition, Chelsea Marlborough, Maddie Barkate, Charlotte Swisher, and Meredith Langmuir each scored twice to help account for Harvard's largest goal scoring output of the season.

Hulslander added a season high 10 draw controls, and sophomore Grace Provenzano earned the win in net, making three saves.

BU scored on its first possession of the game just under a minute into the contest, but Harvard responded with nine consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.

Marlborough scored her first goal of the year on a free position shot from straightaway at 12:40 to tie the game, and Maddie Barkate gave Harvard the lead, spinning away from the middle of the circle and firing across her body for a goal at 8:48.

Charlotte Swisher's first career goal on a nice run from the top of the circle at 4:01 further extended the Crimson lead to 3-1. Goals by Barkate (3:21), Hulslander (:32) and Charley Meier (:03) made it 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.

After Harvard extended its lead to 9-1 early in the second quarter on goals by Marlborough (14:07), Hulslander (13:33) and Hem (12:50), BU responded with a mini two goal run.

But Caroline Mullahy made a great deke move cutting in front of the crease off a pass from Stephanie Hong to stop the run at 3:57. And Charley Meier added a goal at 2:05 to help Harvard build an 11-4 lead at the half.

The Crimson held BU scoreless for most of the third quarter, extending their lead to 14-5 on goals from Langmuir, Mullahy, and Swisher.

Langmuir scored her second of the game with 4:21 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Caroline Behrens scored her first collegiate goal on a free position shot with 11 seconds to play.
