CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore
Maddie Barkate scored a career high five goals and sophomore
Riley Campbell added a career high seven points (four goals, three assists) to lead Harvard women's lacrosse (4-4, 2-1 Ivy) to a 11-7 win over Dartmouth (2-7, 0-3 Ivy) on Sunday (April 3) at Jordan Field.
First-year
Charley Meier added her first two career goals, and sophomore goalkeeper
Chloe Provenzano made seven saves in another solid defensive effort for the Crimson.
Harvard jumped out to a commanding 8-3 lead at the half buoyed by the connection between Barkate and Campbell in the offensive end. A high low pass from Campbell to Barkate let to a spinning goal in front at 12:43 to make it 1-0. Barkate added another off a similar feed from Campbell from the opposite side at 8:43, then scored an unassisted goal at 3:49 to put Harvard in front 3-0.
Campbell scored two straight goals at :35 of the first quarter and 12:51 of the second, cutting through the middle after a feed from
Caroline Mullahy (two assists) for a high low shot to make it 5-1.
Another three goal spurt midway through the second quarter in response to a Dartmouth goal helped Harvard build its five goal lead at the break.
Dartmouth twice cut the Crimson lead to three goals, as Kate Elders scored at 7:08 and 4:04 of the third quarter for the Big Green to make it 8-5, and Dartmouth answered Campbell's fourth of the game late in the third to make it 9-6 with 9:31 to play.
But Barkate scored with one second left on the shot clock on a quick shot from just outside the left crease at 7:19, her fifth of the day, to make it 10-6. Harvard would later survive back to back yellow cards at 4:37 and 3:43 of the fourth quarter, defending well to close out the game.
