Women’s Rugby Posts 3-0 Record in Pool Play at Day One of Collegiate 7s Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – Harvard women's rugby won all three of its pool play games at day one of the 7s Collegiate Championships at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Crimson took down Central Washington, Penn State and American International to post the 3-0 start and hold the No. 1 seed in its pool.  Harvard will take on Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals at 9:40 a.m. tomorrow.

Game One: Harvard 25, Central Washington 0 | Highlights
The Crimson got out to a quick start, scoring a team try that was touched down by Sofie Fella on an offload from PK Vincze to take an early 5-0 lead. Fella was just getting started in her dismantling of the Wildcats defense, as she would go on to score two more tries before the half, featuring one down each sideline. The Crimson took a 17-0 lead to the break behind Fella's scoring surge. The second half saw more of the same for the Crimson, with Vincze feeding Reese Morgan for a try to make it a 20-0 contest. Nafanua Malietoa Fitisemanu rounded out the scoring with a try for Harvard, with Alex Pipkin providing the final offload to cap a 25-0 victory.

Game Two: Harvard 36, Penn State 14 | Highlights
Cassidy Bargell got the Crimson rolling in game two, taking a pair of Nittany Lions into the try zone with her to make it a 7-0 game following a conversion from PK Vincze. However, Penn State would have an answer for the Crimson, tying the score up at seven with a try and conversion just after. Sofie Fella continued her fine play with a long try down the left sideline to give Harvard a 12-7 lead at the half. The Crimson would not give Penn State a way back into the game in the second half, scoring three tries to open up a 31-7 lead. Anjalika Ybema tabbed the first to make it 17-7, before Bargell and Fitisemanu each touched down with Brogan Mior providing a pair of conversions to extend the lead. Penn State would add one more try before Reese Morgan capped off the 36-14 victory with a late try off a great feed from Sofia Hilger.

Game Three: Harvard 24 American Int'l 10 | Highlights
The Crimson had previously taken down AIC by a score of 43-0 at Mignone Field at Crimson 7s and needed to take down the Yellow Jackets again to secure the undefeated start. Anjalika Ybema got Harvard out to an early 7-0 lead, with Alex Pipkin knocking in the conversion. Fitisemanu would score the next try for the Crimson, being her third in as many games on the day. Brogan Mior got in on the action just before the half, taking an offload from Morgan into the try zone to give Harvard a 17-0 lead at the half. The Yellow Jackets showed life in the second half, scoring a pair of tries to eventually make it a 17-10 contest. However, PK Vincze removed any doubt with a try and conversion to give the Crimson a perfect 3-0 start on the weekend.
