Women’s Rugby Falls to Dartmouth in 7s Collegiate Championship Semifinal

ATLANTA, Ga. – Harvard women's rugby advanced to the national semifinals at the 7s Collegiate Championship, eventually falling to Dartmouth by a score of 17-12 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The Crimson took down Sacred Heart, 25-12, in its quarterfinal matchup in the morning and posted a 4-1 overall record at the tournament.

Quarterfinal: Harvard 25, Sacred Heart 12 | Highlights
The two teams met up for a third time after Harvard claimed both a 15s victory and 7s victory over Sacred Heart this season. Brogan Mior wasted no time scoring a long try from beyond midfield to get the Crimson rolling and out to a 5-0 lead. Sofie Fella proved unstoppable in open space once again, scoring a pair of tries before the half to give Harvard a 15-0 advantage at the break. Kiani Akina and Cassidy Bargell got in on the action in the second half, each touching down for a try that eventually gave the Crimson a comfortable 25-0 lead. The Pioneers would tack on a pair of tries late, but Harvard ultimately prevailed with a 25-12 victory to reach the semifinals.

Semifinal: Dartmouth 17, Harvard 12 | Highlights
It was an end-to-end first half in the national semifinals between familiar Ivy League foes. Dartmouth found the try zone first and made no mistake on the conversion to give the Big Green an early 7-0 lead. The Crimson would answer shortly after, with Cassidy Bargell finding PK Vincze down the right sideline in open space for a try that would eventually even the score at seven following a conversion from Alex Pipkin. Both teams would fail to score for the remainder of the half, with Sofie Fella making a crucial tackle to prevent a try just a few meters away from the Havrard try zone. Dartmouth came out on the front foot in the second half, scoring a pair of tries while keeping the Crimson at bay to get out to a 17-7 lead. The Big Green would have a player sent off with almost three minutes left to play, but were able to dispossess Harvard and run the clock out, with the Crimson scoring a last second try through Reese Morgan to make it a 17-12 final.

Harvard Highlights
  • Senior Sofie Fella led the Crimson with a pair of tries on the day and totaled six for the tournament, which also paced the Harvard squad.
