Women’s Soccer’s Rose, Karpenko Selected for Canada U20 World Cup Squad

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University women's soccer rising sophomore defender Jade Rose and rising junior goalkeeper Anna Karpenko have both earned selection into Canada's squad for the 2022 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, Canada Soccer announced on Friday.
 
Earlier this cycle, Rose and Karpenko both helped Canada secure a spot at the World Cup with a third-place finish at the 2022 CONCACAF Women's U20 Championship. Karpenko won the tournament's Golden Glove award as the best goalkeeper and gained a spot on the tournament's Best XI.
 
The 2022 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup is set to run from August 10-28. Canada is set to play in Group C and will meet South Korea (Aug. 11), France (Aug. 14), and Nigeria (Aug. 17) in the group stage. The knockout stage is set to feature the quarterfinals from Aug. 20-21, the semifinals on Aug. 25, and the final and third-place match on Aug. 28.
 
The 2021 Canada Soccer Youth Player of the Year, Rose earned First Team All-Ivy, Top Drawer Soccer First-year Best XI First Team, and First Team All-East Region this past season. A native of Markham, Ontario, Rose played in and started 15 games as a center back, ranking second on the team in minutes played (1,309). She played 90 or more minutes in each of 12 games, scored two goals, and helped the team post six shutouts on the year.
 
A native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Karpenko appeared in 14 games with three starts this past season. Playing 688:17 minutes on the year, she tallied a 1.05 GAA, .652 save percentage, 15 total saves, and 2-2-1 record on the season while assisting in four combined shutouts. In 2022, Karpenko has made seven starts for Canada's U20 team, tallying a 6-0-1 record and allowing just one goal.
 
Harvard opens its 2022 season at Central Connecticut State on Aug. 26 coming off a 2021 campaign in which the Crimson posted a 12-3-1 overall record and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Championship.
