Fahmy Nets Goal, Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior James Fahmy scored his first goal of the season as Harvard University men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw at Merrimack College on Tuesday night at Martone-Mejail Field.
 
The Crimson (3-2-1) – which held a 25-9 edge in shots, including a 16-5 margin in the second half – opened the game's scoring in the 10th minute before the Warriors (3-4-1) equalized in the 35th minute prior to a scoreless second half.

Harvard Highlights

  • Junior James Fahmy scored his first goal of the season and the second goal of his career with his marker in the 10th minute.
  • Junior Willem Ebbinge led all players in both shots (eight) and shots on goal (four).
  • Senior Nico Garcia-Morillo and sophomore Alessandro Arlotti each tallied five shots and two shots on goal.
  • Senior goalkeeper Oskar Nilsson made a season-high four saves for the second straight game.

How It Happened

  • The Crimson opened the game's scoring inside of the contest's first 10 minutes as junior James Fahmy collected a rebound at the top of the box and sent a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the goal at the 9:03 mark.
  • Merrimack drew level at the 34:09 mark as Curtis Moore scored from close range following a free kick from the Warriors.
  • In the first half, Harvard led in shots (9-4), shots on goal (4-3), and corner kicks (2-1).
  • The Crimson continued to generate the better of the chances in the second half, gaining edges in shots (16-5), shots on goal (9-2), and corners (3-2) in the period.
  • For the match, Harvard held advantages in shots (25-9), shots on goal (13-5), and corners (5-3).
