New York City, N.Y. - The Harvard women's basketball team (9-7, 2-2 Ivy) was unable to bring home a win from New York City against Columbia (14-3, 3-1 Ivy), falling 56-82 to the Lions.
Lola Mullaney scored the first points of the game with a lay up, later scoring the first from three in the game. Harvard made three steals in the first quarter to score seven points off turnovers compared to Columbia's two points off turnovers. The first quarter ended 18-13, led by Columbia.
Maggie McCarthy started the second quarter from three, followed by Forbes and Mullaney adding another five points to take the lead 21-20. Harvard shot 60% from three over Columbia's 50%, going into the locker at half with a nine-point deficit to the Lions.
Both teams scored three points throughout the first three minutes of quarter three, with Columbia pulling away in the third quarter. Harvard outscored the Lions for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter but were unable to make up the deficit to bring home a win. Harvard ultimately fell to Columbia, 56-82.
Harvard Highlights
- Mullaney scored 25 points to lead the Crimson. 15 of these points came from beyond the arc as she shot 5-of-11 from three. This is the second game this season she has led the team in scoring after putting up 30 points against Brown last weekend.
- She was followed by McKenzie Forbes and Elena Rodriguez who scored eight points each.
- McCarthy, Rodriguez and Saniyah Glenn-Bello each pulled down four rebounds. They were followed by Turner with two.
- Rodriguez and Glenn-Bello dished out four assists each to lead the team in the metric, followed by McCarthy and Harmoni Turner with three each.
- Harvard finished the game with five steals over Columbia's two and three blocks over Columbia's two.
