CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Women's Volleyball team (12-5, 5-3 Ivy) defeated the Big Green of Dartmouth in five sets on an exciting Friday night in the MAC with scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21 and 15-5.
Ashley Wang tied the Harvard single-season record for triple doubles with her seventh of 2023 tonight.
Dartmouth started the match with a lead in set one but was quickly matched by the Crimson. Both teams battled back and forth with multiple changes to the lead. Although both teams were even with 10 kills and five blocks each in the set, the Big Green ultimately started the night up one set with a 25-21 win.
Harvard started set two with a new confidence, winning the first point and holding a lead from there, staying one or two ahead of Dartmouth for the entire frame. The Crimson finished the set with a three-point berth, winning 25-22 to tie the match up 1-1.
Set three started the way of the Big Green, as Dartmouth built up a lead to make the score 14-5 at one point. Harvard called a timeout and was able to score the next six points in a row, getting back in the game by cutting the nine-point lead to three. After a few more tough rallies, the set was tied up at 16 and Harvard took the lead at 20. The final points were back and forth and forced the set past 25, but Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead after winning 27-25.
The fourth was a similar start to the third, with Dartmouth taking a lead but Harvard walking down on them to regain an advantage toward the middle of the set. The Crimson continued to outscore Dartmouth in another comeback set and were able to come out on top this time, winning set four 25-21 and bringing the match to a fifth set.
Set five was all Crimson to start, with Harvard going up 10-2 through the first 12 points. The Crimson kept their momentum from there, winning the fifth set by a margin of 10 to win 15-5 in the fifth set and 3-2 in the match.
Harvard Highlights
- Ashley Wang posted her seventh triple double of the season to tie the Harvard single-season record of seven triple-doubles with 23 assists, 10 block assists and 16 digs.
- Three Crimson players were in the double digits when it came to kills on the night, as Katie Vorhies led with 15 followed by Ava Rauser and Nicole Prescott with 12 each. Ryleigh Patterson added seven, with the best hitting percentage of the night at .429.
- Wang led the team in assists with 23, followed by Rocky Aguirre with 19.
- Patterson was powerful from the server's box, making four aces throughout the match. Prescott added two as well.
- Patterson had a career high block assists with 13 and two solo blocks as well to lead the team at the net.
- Four Crimson players were in double-digits in digs as well, with Wang and Lindsey Zhang posting 16 each, Aguirre posting 12 and Hannah Nguyen posting 11.
