Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Hands Dartmouth Their First Defeat of the Season in Style

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was a magical night at Jordan Field for Harvard Women's Soccer, who used several highlight reel goals to power the team to a 3-0 defeat of Dartmouth. The Crimson (7-3-1, 2-1-0 Ivy) handed the Big Green (7-1-3, 2-1-0 Ivy) its first loss of the season in style. First-year Jasmine Leshnick stole the show with her dazzling bicycle kick strike with just seconds remaining in the first half that helped lift Harvard to the result.

Hannah Bebar was next, scoring a phenomenal bending shot into the top right corner for the Crimson's second goal of the afternoon. Audrey Francois capped off the scoring with her second goal of the season to give the Crimson it's 3-0 result.

Harvard - now tied for second in the Ivy League table – will now turn to face Cornell in its third game in seven days on Saturday, Oct. 7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Harvard and Dartmouth met on the women's soccer pitch tonight for the 55th time in their storied rivalry.
  • Dartmouth came into the contest as one of only nine remaining unbeaten teams in the nation and one of only three programs who had not conceded a first-half goal.
  • The Big Green showed why in the first 15 minutes of play, as the Crimson's constant pursuit of a goal was repeatedly thwarted by the likes of the Big Green backline and goalkeeper, Emily Hardy.
  • The Crimson fired off 11 shots in the first 44 minutes, including five on net, without finding a tally.
  • Gabby DelPico's three shots – all of which were on net – led the team in the first half. Her third shot of the half nearly found the twine, but the Dartmouth keeper made an incredible effort getting her fingertips on the chance that ricocheted off the cross bar.
  • Harvard got the spark it was looking for with just seconds remaining in the half when Jasmine Leshnick delivered a brilliant bicycle kick shot into the net. The jaw-dropping shot went bar-down and in to put the Crimson up 1-0.
  • The goal was the first time Dartmouth has conceded a first-half goal this season.
  • The box score at the end of the first half had Harvard leading in shots (12-0), shots on goal (6-0), corners (5-0) and possession (72-28).
  • Harvard kept its foot on the gas in the second half, coming out strong while in pursuit of another goal. Hannah Bebar logged the first chance of the half with a shot that was saved at the 50' mark.
  • Dartmouth managed to settle things down for the next 20 minutes, continually halting the Crimson's offensive attack. Ava Lung and Anna Rayhill managed to get shots past the Big Green backline at 63' and 67 but could not find the insurance goal they were looking for.
  • That insurance goal would come in the 73rd minute courtesy of an impressive goal from Hannah Bebar. Susie Long and Taylor Fasnacht worked together to set up Bebar, who dialed up a beautiful bending shot that snuck into the back right corner of the net.
  • Just three minutes later, the Crimson got another number on the board after Audrey Francois battled through a group of Dartmouth defenders to bang home a cross from Josefine Hasbo.
  • The Crimson would hold on to the 3-0 lead for the remainder of the game, securing another top-50 RPI win and three more points to help them move up the Ivy League table.
