Women's Volleyball Falls to Princeton, Secures No. 4 Seed at Ivy Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the final regular season match of the season, the Harvard Crimson women's volleyball team (15-8, 8-6 Ivy) fell to the Princeton Tigers by a score of 3-1, winning the second set only. The four sets ended in scores of 22-25, 25-16, 22-25 and 24-26.

Harvard has secured the number four seed in the Ivy League Tournament with the conclusion of regular season play and will go on to face Ivy League no. 1 Yale on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The match will air on ESPN+ and will take place in New Haven, Conn.

In the first set, the Tigers took control and built up a six-point lead early in the contest. However, the Crimson reigned them in, pulling the difference down to one point and making it hard for the Tigers to build up a lead again. Princeton won the set 25-22 and took a 1-0 lead.

The second set went the opposite direction, with Harvard taking control from the jump and building a lead of their own. With Ariana White setting a new career best in solo blocks, Harvard was able to build up a nine-point lead that finished the set 25-16 to tie the match at 1-1.

Princeton took the third set in a similar fashion to the first, starting with a lead that was later narrowed by the Crimson. The set ended with the same score as the first as well, 25-22.

The fourth set started with the Tigers' advantage, with Harvard making up the difference later in the frame this time. The Crimson tied it up at 20 and went on to push to a 24-24 tie.  From there, Princeton won the next two points and won the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.

Harvard Highlights

  • Katie Vorhies was dominant on offense, leading the Crimson with 17 kills off 35 attacks. She was followed by Ryleigh Patterson with eight and Ava Rauser with seven.
  • Ashley Wang led in assists, putting up 22, while Rocky Aguirre added 13.
  • Aguirre scored three service aces of the Crimson's six over four sets.
  • White was the leader in defense, setting a new career high four solo blocks and adding an assist for 4.5 total blocks on the night.
  • Aguirre and Lindsey Zhang both posted 12 digs against the Tigers to lead the team, giving Aguirre a double-double.
