Women’s Basketball Cruises to First Home Win; Defeat Quinnipiac, 85-41

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This afternoon inside a filled Lavietes Pavilion, Harvard women's basketball cruised to victory over Quinnipiac in their home opener.  With a balanced team effort from the squad, the Crimson powered past the Bobcats, 85-41 to improve to 2-1 on the season.

How it Happened

The Bobcats notched the first five points of the contest but it was nearly all Crimson the rest of the way, outscoring their opponent 16-2 through the final seven minutes of the quarter.  Through their dominant quarter run, the Crimson received scoring contributions from seven different players.

The Crimson continued to shred through the Quinnipiac defense as the contest continued into the second quarter.  While giving up just seven points, the Crimson dropped a season best 30 points in the second frame.  18 of their points came from deep as the Crimson shot 54.5 percent from behind the arc including a buzzer beater from deep from Lola Mullaney.  The Crimson shared the ball incredibly in the second quarter, dishing out 10 assists to their opponents one.  At halftime, every Crimson player had already contributed points to the teams 46-14 lead.

The second half was more of the same as the Crimson continued to pressure up on the Bobcats and connect on the offensive end.  Out of locker room Harmoni Turner registered a pair of buckets to get things going for the Crimson.  Once against shooting over 50% from the field as a team in the quarter, Harvard reached their largest lead of the contest so far, up 65-24 going into the fourth.

The Crimson were able to win the fourth quarter and keep the game far out of reach of the Bobcats, ending the contest with a final score of 85-41.
