DURHAM, N.H. – Harvard women's ice hockey was tripped up in its road contest against the New Hampshire Wildcats, falling by a score of 3-0. The Crimson (1-9-1, 0-8-1 ECACH) created a number of solid scoring chances in the contest but came up short in the battle with its regional rival.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson and the Wildcats renewed its rivalry at the Whittemore Center tonight for the 56th time in series history. It was the second straight Hockey East matchup for Harvard, who was coming off a 3-1 win over the Boston University Terriers.
- The Crimson brought the pressure early in the contest, creating two good chances in the first five minutes of play. Kate Kasica and Ellie Bayard recorded the shots in the sequence.
- Alex Pellicci and the Crimson penalty kill units started the game strong, stopping both Wildcat powerplays in the first frame. Pellicci made 13 saves in the first twenty minutes to lead the defensive effort.
- UNH managed to sneak a shot across the line late in the period off a quick faceoff shot to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
- Harvard came out the first break flying, putting five shots on net and allowing none to reach Pellicci in the first nine minutes of the frame. Harvard continued its pressure, outshooting UNH 11-7 in the period.
- UNH added another tally with just over five minutes remaining in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Harvard created a number of good chances down the stretch but were kept off the scoreboard.
- The lead would increase to 3-0 for UNH early in the third after a Wildcat skater potted a goal that went just over Pellicci's glove.
- All the Crimson shot attempts in the third frame were turned aside as the score would hold at 3-0 when the final horn sounded.
