Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Koskenvuo Makes Career-High 39 Saves as Men's Hockey Ties Princeton in Home Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 19/15 men's ice hockey tied its second consecutive game after a wild third period at Bright-Landry tonight. Harvard had goals from Joe Miller, Marek Hejduk, and, the first career goal from Ryan Fine. Aku Koskenvuo was stellar between the pipes after making a career-high 39 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers scored first just two minutes into the game after Josh Karnish took a feed from behind the net and flipped it over Koskenvuo. A bang-bang play, Karnish was able to get behind the defense and chip a shot over the Finnish netminder.

Harvard was able to tie the game on Ryan Fine's first career goal. Assisted by fellow first-year Ben MacDonald, the Weston, Mass. native threw a puck on the net that hit Fine's glove and deflected into the cage to even the score. MacDonald registered his first career points tonight.

Shortly after, Joe Miller tallied his first of the year. The sophomore made a quick move on the top of the left circle and fired a shot that hit some traffic and beat the Tigers goalie. Miller's first goal of the season was also the first time this season Harvard has scored on the power play.

Aku Koskenvuo had made eighteen stops through a period and a half and finished with 22 saves after forty minutes.

Princeton started the third period the same way they started the first period with a goal in the early minutes. After a break in coverage. The Tigers were able to fire it past Koskenvuo to regain the lead.

Cam Johnson and Marek Hejduk answered right back for Harvard after the first-year weaved his way through the defense and fired a pass off pad that Marek Hejduk picked up for his first of the season. Cam Johnson now has assists in back-to-back games to open the season.

In a wild third period, the Tigers took the lead yet again 19 seconds later to regain the lead.

Joe Miller answered right back for Harvard to tie the game at four. Assisted by Ryan Healey and Ben MacDonald the third-period tally was the fourth goal scored in the first thirteen minutes of play. MacDonald and Miller both had two points each.

Koskenvuo made two huge stops late in the third period to help send the game into overtime. The sophomore ended up with a career-high 39 saves.

Harvard fell in the shootout by a score of 2-1 with Marek Hejduk netting the lone goal in the shootout.
