Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

St. Lawrence Downs Men's Ice Hockey 2-0

CANTON, NY – Men's hockey (1-5-3, 1-3-3 ECAC) fell to St. Lawrence despite a late third-period push on Saturday evening by a score of 2-0. Aku Koskenvuo was sharp in the crease after recording 27 saves for the Crimson. Harvard now has a 28-day break before it returns to action against Princeton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Harvard fell behind 1-0 early in the first period after Koskenvuo was beaten glove side by Gunnar Thoreson. The first-year walked just over the blue line and was able to pick a corner for an early first-period lead. Koskenvuo went on to make multiple big stops through traffic in the period to keep the score where it was.

Harvard had to kill off a late penalty to Marek Hejduk after he was called for boarding with just over two minutes left in the opening frame. Originally reviewed by the officials, the call stood as just a minor for boarding. The Crimson went on to kill the penalty just as time expired in the first.

An early glove stop from Koskenvuo started the second. The Finnish netminder located the shot from the point and got a quick whistle to reset the action.

Harvard began to pick up the pace and controlled much of the momentum in the second period as Ryan Fine, Tommy Lyons, and Ryan Healey began to generate scoring chances for the Crimson. The Crimson defense generated 10 shot attempts through the first forty minutes of action.

Philip Tresca had a late partial break with time expiring but he was unable to corral the puck and went crashing into the net. Harvard trailed 17-14 in shots after 40 minutes.

Cam Johnson came out flying in the opening minutes of the third after getting a pass in the neutral zone as the first-year worked his way into a partial break. The Vancouver native tried to beat the Saints netminder blocker side but it wouldn't go.

St. Lawrence responded with another goal from the point through traffic to take a 2-0 lead with 16:28 left in the game.

Harvard was awarded its first power-play of the game after the Saints were called for too many on the ice late in the third period.  The power-play unit generated multiple good looks on the man advantage but was unable to capitalize.

NEXT UP
The Crimson does not return to action until Dec. 30 when it heads to Princeton to restart the second half of the season.
