ORONO, ME – Harvard women's basketball fell to University of Maine this evening in Orono, Maine, 61-79.
Lola Mullaney led all scorers with 17 points while three other Crimson players joined her in double figures.
How it Happened
The Crimson came out of the gate hot, making four of its first five field goal attempts beginning with
Elena Rodriguez scoring the first points of the contest. The first quarter was a balanced scoring attack as five Crimson players contributed to the team's 17-point frame.
Karlee White's day began early as the first-year recorded five points and four rebounds in the first 10 minutes of play.
Despite field goal attempts and makes at a deadlock between the two squads following the second quarter, free throws allowed Maine to pull ahead by three headed into the half.
Coming out of the locker room, Mullaney pulled the Crimson back into the lead, notching the first seven points off of a pair of finishes at the rim and a triple. Although the Black Bears began to pull ahead midway through the third quarter, the Crimson continued to pressure up and went into the final frame down three possessions.
The Crimson connected on two layups from Rodriguez and Mullaney to open the final quarter and pull Harvard within five. Ultimately, the Black Bears were able to maintain their lead until the final horn and the Crimson dropped the 61-79 decision.
Harvard Highlights
- Mullaney led all scorers with 17 points on 43.8% shooting from the field. The senior added four assists, three rebounds, and a steal in the game.
- With her 17 points tonight, Mullaney now stands at 1,303 career points and has moved into the No. 10 spot on the Harvard women's basketball all-time scorers list. Mullaney is the first Crimson player to break into the top-ten since Christine Clark '14.
- Wright (12), Rodriguez (11), and White (11) all joined Mullaney in double figures against the Black Bears.
- Not only posting a career-high in points, White registered a team-best seven rebounds while also dishing out three assists and notched three steals and a block.
- In addition to her 11 points, Rodriguez added five rebounds and a team-high five assists. Krupa, who contributed eight points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, mirrored Rodriguez's numbers in rebounds and assists.
- White, Glenn-Bello, and Krupa all contributed a trio of steals on the day to lead the team on the defensive end.
