Princeton, N.J. - The Harvard women's basketball team (15-10, 8-5 Ivy) dropped a close game to Princeton (20-5, 11-2 Ivy) in the final minutes of play, 51-47.
Saniyah Glenn-Bello started the game with a layup right off the jump ball, giving the Crimson the first lead of the night. Harvard held the lead for two minutes but the Tigers took over shortly after. Glenn-Bello brought the lead back to the Crimson with a steal for her second layup and Harvard ended the quarter with a narrow lead, 14-12.
Harvard held the lead throughout the second quarter, with McKenzie Forbes hitting her second three five minutes in. At this point, Forbes was the only player on the court to score from three. Katie Krupa joined her from three as she and Glenn-Bello made a push to bring the Crimson up by 10 going into the locker, 30-20.
Princeton made up ground early in the third quarter to bring the game to one possession halfway through the quarter. Harmoni Turner and Forbes hit double digits as they kept the Crimson ahead and built up a buffer of four points to end the quarter 39-35.
Harvard remained in control to start the final ten minutes of play, with Forbes hitting her fourth three to keep the Crimson just out of reach. Princeton tied it up at 47 with two minutes to go and ultimately made the final baskets that would win the game for the Tigers, 51-47.
Harvard Highlights
- Forbes topped the leader board in scoring as she put up 19 points over the Tigers, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three. With her four threes, she alone scored twice as many points from three as the entire Princeton team.
- Turner followed Forbes and joined her in double digits with 11 points.
- Rodriguez pulled down nine rebounds to lead the team, followed by Forbes and Glenn-Bello with five. Every Crimson player who stepped foot on the court pulled down at least two rebounds throughout the night.
- Turner dished out three assists each to lead the team in the metric.
- Harvard out rebounded the Tigers 31-26.
- Harvard's first-years had a great showing in Princeton, with Glen-Bello playing a key role in getting the Crimson the early lead and Krupa growing that lead in the second quarter. Both put up six points throughout the night.
- In the first half, Harvard did not allow Princeton to score a single three. By the end of the third quarter, Forbes had more threes (3) than the entire Princeton team (2), eventually scoring her fourth three to double Princeton's score.
- The Crimson are now 1-1 against Princeton throughout the 2022-23 season and may meet the Tigers again at the Ivy Madness Tournament, returning to Princeton in just two weeks.
