CANTON, NY. –
Alex Laferriere and
John Farinacci both recorded two points each in a 6-2 victory over St. Lawrence Friday evening. The Crimson (20-6-2, 17-4-0 ECAC Hockey) saw five different goal scorers find the back of the net while
Mitchell Gibson stopped 25 of 27 to give Harvard its 20th win of the season. The Crimson have now won 20 games in back-to-back seasons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson came out flying in an action-packed first period that finally saw the Crimson get on the board with 1:20 left in the opening period. On the second power-play of the game, junior
Alex Laferriere scored his 16th goal of the season from behind the net to give the Crimson a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Nearly halfway through the second period,
Mitchell Gibson left his crease for a flying poke check to break up a great scoring chance for the Saints. The senior made 14 saves through two periods. Shortly thereafter,
Philip Tresca scored as a power-play was expiring to give the Crimson a two-goal lead. Tresca finished off a beautiful passing play started by
Joe Miller and
Alex Gaffney to score his third of the season. The first-year now has goals in back-to-back games.
Two minutes later the Saints answered back on the power-play with a quick goal on a shot through traffic to cut the lead to one. Gibson made yet another big save on a partial break late in the second to help preserve the Crimson lead. With .51 seconds left in the middle period,
Baker Shore tipped in a shot from
Jack Bar to regain the two-goal lead for the Crimson. 48 seconds later,
John Farinacci corralled a shot attempt from
Henry Thrun and beat the goalie five-hole for his third of the season. Farinacci now has thirteen points in thirteen games this season.
Early in the third, the Saints scored another quick power-play goal on a rebound after Gibson made the initial save. Down the stretch,
Mitchell Gibson made big saves on some second and third-chance efforts from the Saints. With a little over four minutes left to play
Mason Langenbrunner blocked a shot at the hash marks that led to a chip into the neutral zone from
Joe Miller.
Sean Farrell then split the defenders and was brought down by a hook on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Farrell weaved in slowly and roofed his 18th goal of the season. Less than a minute later
Alex Laferriere hit the empty net to cap off a 6-2 victory for the Crimson.
