Women's Water Polo to Host Bruno Classic This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.. – No.19 Harvard women's water polo opens its 2023 home schedule with four games at the Bruno Classic this weekend. The Crimson will play four games over Saturday and Sunday as they look to build on their 3-1 trip at the Hoosier Invite. Harvard opens the tournament with a pair of games on Saturday against Marist at 9:00 a.m. before facing La Salle at 4:00 p.m. The Crimson close out the tournament with Pomona-Pitzer at 11:30 p.m. and LIU at 3:00 p.m. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.  

What to Know

  • The Crimson opened the 2023 season with a 3-1 weekend at the Hoosier Invite in Bloomington, Indiana. Harvard defeated Cal State East Bay, Villanova, and McKendree for its three early season victories. 
  • Ted Minnis recorded his 200th career win as head coach of the women's program after defeating Cal State East Bay in the first game of the 2023 season. 
  • The Crimson averaged 19 goals per game over its three victories last weekend.
  • Grace Thawley led the charge offensively as the senior tallied eight goals over the weekend and two assists over the weekend. 
  • Evan Tingler also tallied eight goals over four games to start her senior season. 
  • Alexis Kieckhafer, Sutchie Ofori-Nyako, and Anne-Charlotte Gillard all played last weekend with the netminders tallying 15, 12, and 18 saves respectively. 
  • The Crimson has an all-time record of 10-6 against Marist, 2-0 against La Salle, 4-6 against Pomona Pitzer, and 3-0 against LIU.

Next Up 

The Crimson travel to Princeton for the Princeton Invite on Feb.25 for a pair of games at DeNunzio Pool.  The Crimson opens a busy Saturday with Princeton at noon before a quick turnaround against Iona at 2:30 p.m.
