Softball Falls to UCSD and Syracuse at Lance Up Invite

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - After two game cancelations due to weather on Friday, Harvard fell to UCSD and Syracuse to start the Lance Up Invite in Riverside, Calif. on Saturday, March 11. The Crimson were shut out in both games, 6-0 and 1-0. 

How it Happened

UCSD took the lead in the fourth inning with their first run, then adding three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Harvard managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Crimson last got a runner on third in the sixth, when junior Lauren Bobowski made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

Later on, in a close contest against Syracuse, the Orange scored the only run of the game in the third inning and ultimately won 1-0. 

Game Highlights

• Against UCSD, Senior Megan Welsh led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double.
• Harvard pitchers faced 35 UCSD hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and three fly balls while striking out seven.

Up Next

The Crimson will play another game at the Lance Up Invite on Sunday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m. EST against the host school California Baptist. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
