SAN DIEGO, CA – No. 10 Harvard Men's Tennis returned to action after nearly a month break to take on San Diego State (SDSU) and UC San Diego in the Aztec Tennis Center. The Crimson returned to the win column, adding two victories to improve to 8-3 this spring. To open the day, Harvard cruised to a 4-0 win over SDSU and then later downed UC San Diego, 4-2.
Domination Over SDSU
Harvard looked strong in their first match of spring break, defeating the Aztec with relative ease.
David Lins and
Alan Yim secured the first win of the day for the Crimson, only dropping one game en route to their doubles win at the No. 3 position. The duo of
Daniel Milavsky and
Harris Walker then secured the doubles point for Harvard, winning 6-2 at the top position over the No. 80 nationally ranked duo.
Moving into singles, Walker grabbed his sixth singles win of the season, defeating Johannes Seeman (SDSU), with a pair of 6-3 decisions. In his fourth appearance at the No. 2 position, Milavsky brought the Crimson a win away from clinching with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance.
First-year,
Valdemar Pape, ultimately secured the sweep for the Crimson at the No. 5 position. Splitting the first two sets with his opponent, Pape went on to not drop a single game in the third set to lift the Crimson to the win.
Crimson Stay Perfect in the Golden State
In their second match of the day the Crimson started hot, once again grabbing the doubles point with wins from Milavsky and Walker and
Ronan Jachuck and
Steven Sun. Milavsky and Walker dominated to pick up their second doubles win of the day while only dropping one game. Playing at the No. 2 position, Jachuck and Sun secured the doubles point for Harvard with their 6-4 victory.
Milavsky pulled the Crimson further ahead as they moved into singles play. The sophomore won with relative ease, only dropping three games throughout his straight set victory. A retired match at the No. 6 position put the Tritons on the board but two additional wins from Pape and Walker, clinched the victory for the Crimson.
Pape, playing in his first singles match at the No. 3 position, dominated his opponent, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Walker's 6-2, 7-5 win put the Crimson up 4-1, ultimately securing win two on the night for Harvard.
Harvard Highlights
- After falling in their last time out, the Crimson cruised back into the win column to improve to 8-3 for the 2023 spring season.
- Milavsky, Walker, and Pape all went 2-0 on the day in singles play. Milavsky and Walker did not drop a set throughout both their victories.
- Pape began his first collegiate season dropping to 0-2. Since then, the first-year has been on a tear, winning seven straight, including a straight set win in his first time at the No. 3 position tonight.
- Jachuck and Sun continue to dominate as a pairing this season. The duo secured a win in their match against UC San Diego to improve to 9-1 for the spring season and 12-1 overall.
- Milavsky and Walker went 2-0 today in their first pairings of the 2022-23 season. The two downed the No. 80 nationally ranked duo, Johannes Seeman and Chikaya Sato (SDSU).
