HANOVER, N.H. – Harvard Men's Lacrosse suffered its first Ivy League setback of the season this afternoon, falling to the Dartmouth Big Green, 10-9 in overtime. The Crimson (3-4, 1-1 Ivy) got four goals from
Teddy Malone who notched five points to lead the Crimson attack in the effort.Â
Harvard will look to get back on track next week when it caps off its nonconference schedule and a four-game road stretch next weekend at Colgate. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson and the Big Green met on a snowy Sculley-Fahey Field in Hanover, N.H. this afternoon for its 92nd meeting in the all-time series.
- Dartmouth took an early lead out of the gates, putting two goals on the board to take a 2-0 lead at the 8:36 mark in the quarter. Harvard tied the game up with two goals in just 30 seconds, both from Teddy Malone, to end the first quarter tied at 2-2.
- The Harvard defense set the tone in the first quarter, forcing three failed clears and six Dartmouth turnovers in the first 15.
- Malone potted the next two goals for Harvard in the first four minutes of the second quarter as Harvard took the lead 4-2.
- Dartmouth tried to crawl back into the contest, scoring a goal with five minutes left in the quarter, but was put back down after a rocket shot from Miles Botkiss found the back of the net. The lead would hold, and Harvard held on to a 5-3 lead at the halftime break.
- The Crimson came out firing to start the second half, getting goals from Sam King and Hayden Cheek before Dartmouth finally countered with a trike of its own at 12:14 to make the score 7-4 in favor of Harvard.
- Cheek added a highlight-reel goal later in the quarter, getting a pass at the 30 before crow-hopping three times, loading up and threading a sidearm shot into the back of the net.
- After another Dartmouth answer, Sam King scored his second goal of the day to give Harvard the lead heading into the final quarter.
- Dartmouth chipped away at the Crimson lead, eventually knotting the score at nine-all and forcing an overtime period after a battle in the fourth quarter.
- Harvard forced a Dartmouth turnover early in the overtime period, getting the ball back with 3:08 left on the clock. Malone had a great look on the ensuing possession, but his shot attempt sailed over the cage. Sam King had the next chance but suffered the same fate as Dartmouth regained possession. Dartmouth would get the game winner on their next possession to come away with the win.
