Harvard Softball Completes Sweep of Brown With 6-2 and 7-0 Wins

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Crimson (14-9-1, 7-2 Ivy) defeated the Brown Bears (5-19, 2-7 Ivy) in both contests on Sunday to complete the sweep of the weekend series by scores of 6-2 and 7-0. With three wins over Brown, Harvard is now 72-38 over the Bears in the all-time series.

How it Happened

The Crimson got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Harvard then held the Bears scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning with two more runs, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Crimson.
Brown narrowed Harvard's lead to 4-2 before the Crimson stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the sixth inning.
The Crimson got back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Lauren Bobowski and Allison Heffley to pick up a couple of runs. The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as Harvard coasted to the win.

Game Highlights

• Sophomore Katie Arrambide (4-2) started as pitcher and got the win for Harvard. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. First-year Riley Flynn also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
• Bobowski led the way offensively for the Crimson, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Heffley put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Senior Trina Hoang also contributed, going 3-for-3 for Harvard.
• Harvard scored two runs, Brown's total throughout the game, in three separate innings.
• Harvard took a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
•The Crimson out-hit the Bears at an 8-5 clip.
• Both Bobowski and senior Kaitlin Lampson stole two bases in Sunday's game while the Crimson swiped five bases as a team.
• Harvard went 3-for-10 (.300) with runners in scoring position.
• Harvard pitchers limited Brown to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
• Harvard pitchers faced 29 Brown hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out five.

How it Happened

The Crimson took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Harvard's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Teagan Shaw and a two-run single from Finley Payne.

The Crimson also added runs in the second and fifth innings on the way to the 7-0 victory.

Game Highlights

• Flynn tossed a two-hit shutout for the Crimson, going the distance for Harvard, giving up two hits, walking four and striking out four.
• At the plate, the Crimson were paced by Shaw, who went 1-for-2 on the day with two RBI. Payne compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-1 with two RBI.  Bobowski also contributed for Harvard, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
• Harvard's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed four runs across.
• Harvard took a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
• The Crimson out-hit the Bears at a 9-2 clip.
• Bobowski stole two bases in the second game of the day, running up a total of four throughout both games on Sunday.
• Harvard went 5-for-13 (.385) with runners in scoring position.

Up Next

Harvard will host Merrimack in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 4 with games at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. This is the first ever meeting between the two Massachusetts-based teams. The first contest will stream on NESN and ESPN+ and the second will stream on ESPN+.
