Men's Lightweight Rowing Captures Second Place at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Harvard lightweight rowing team captured a second-place finish at Eastern Sprints this afternoon after an impressive day of racing for the Crimson. Harvard raced in three varsity eight+ events, with all three crews advancing to the grand finals of their respective events. The Crimson placed second in the first and second varsity eight events and fourth in the third varsity race.

The Crimson first varsity crew started the day off strong with a second-place finish in its heat after posting a time of 5:36.630. Harvard nearly overtook Princeton in the final 250 meters, but the Tigers slipped away from the Crimson's reach.
 
Harvard suffered the same fate in the grand final later in the afternoon, falling to Princeton again by less than a second. The Crimson avenged its loss to Yale earlier this season, defeating the Bulldogs and the other crews from Navy, Penn and Cornell. It was the highest finish for the Harvard first varsity boat since the 2017 season.

Harvard's second varsity boat began its run at Sprints with a victory in its heat to move on to the grand final. The Crimson posted an impressive time of 5:40.765 to pick up a win over Cornell, Yale and Navy.
 
In the grand final, Harvard pushed its pace, staying amongst the leaders heading into the final stretch. Locked in a battle with Cornell and Princeton, the Crimson maintained its speed to defeat the Big Red. The Tiger crew was just able to stretch past Harvard in order to grab the top spot.

The Crimson third varsity crew put together a great effort in its heat, finishing in second place just behind the pace set by Yale. The Crimson went on to the grand final with the result. The Crimson would go on to finish in fourth-place in the grand final after getting edged out by Navy for the final spot on the podium. Harvard fell to the Midshipmen by just over a second, but the Crimson still earned wins over rivals Penn and Princeton.
