PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard men's lacrosse was well represented in the Ivy League's end of season awards, earning five spots on the three All-Ivy League teams.
Sam King and
Owen Gaffney landed on the All-Ivy League Second Team while
Collin Bergstrom,
Andrew Perry and
Chase Yager all earned All-Ivy Honorable Mention distinctions. This marks the second season in which the program netted five honors.
A sophomore attack from Baltimore,
Sam King earned his second career Ivy League honor after a stellar 2023 campaign. King established himself as one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the Ivy League, posting a team high 31 goals and 25 assists to total a career-best 56 points. King also eclipsed the 100-point milestone in the final game of the season, making him the fifth fastest player to reach the total in program history.
Another member of the star-studded Crimson sophomore class,
Owen Gaffney earned his first All-Ivy League honor, landing on the second team. Gaffney finished third on the team in goals and points, scoring 14 times and totaling 23 points during the season. The California native also was an integral part of the fourth-ranked Harvard ride that held opponents to a .789 clearing percentage in 2023. Gaffney caused five turnovers and scooped up 19 ground balls to aid the effort.
Collin Bergstrom represents the Crimson defense on the Honorable Mention All-Ivy League list after leading the squad with 15 caused turnovers in 2023. Bergstrom stepped up his game in Ivy League play, causing 11 turnovers in conference games, the second-best total in the league. The Massachusetts native rounded out the year with eight CTs in the final three games as well. This is the first Ivy League honor for Bergstrom.
Andrew Perry was the fourth sophomore that earned an Ivy League honor, landing on the Honorable Mention list after 22-point and 13-goal season. Perry was one of Harvard's top scoring midfielders, contributing three man-up goals on the campaign. Perry was crucial in helping the squad defeat the No. 4 Cornell Big Red, leading the team with three goals and four points in the contest. This is also Perry's first Ivy League honor.
Landing on the honorable mention list for the second straight season, SSDM
Chase Yager turned in another impressive resume in his final year in Crimson. The senior defensive midfielder flew all over the field, contributing five points with three goals and two assists on offense while grabbing 27 ground balls and causing 14 turnovers on the defensive end of the field. Yager caused a turnover in all but two games in 2023, finishing sixth in the conference with 1.17 CTs per game.
Yager also earned his second straight Academic All-Ivy honor after turning in an equally impressive academic resume in the classroom. He is only the fourth student-athlete in program history to earn the distinction twice in his career.
