Dylan Tellado all scored goals in the first half as Harvard University men's soccer beat Columbia University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
Competing in its first Ivy League road match of the year, the Crimson (2-3-4, 1-0-1 Ivy) scored three goals in the first 31 minutes of the contest on its way to the victory over the host Lions (2-4-2, 0-2-0 Ivy).
Arlotti converted a penalty kick in the sixth minute to open the scoring in the sixth minute, Ojea Quintana netted his first collegiate goal in the 12
th minute to make the score 2-0, and Tellado pushed the lead back to two goals at 3-1 with a tally in the 31
st minute.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Alessandro Arlotti tallied three points on a goal and an assist. He scored his second goal of the season and 16th of his career, while notching his fourth assist of the year and 18th of his career. He posted three points in a match for the eighth time in his career and for the second time this season.
- Sophomore Marcos Ojea Quintana scored his first career goal.
- First-year Dylan Tellado scored his third goal of the year.
- Sophomore Matus Vician notched his second assist of the year and the fourth of his career.
- Senior Ale Gutierrez compiled his first assist of the year and third of his career.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Lucian Wood made four saves in the win.
- Among the Crimson's field players. senior Nik White, junior Jan Riecke, and sophmore Ethan Veghte all played the full 90 minutes. Riecke has competed in all 810 minutes on the season.
- Arlotti registered game highs in shots (four) and shots on goal (three).
- As a team, Harvard led 6-5 in shots on goal. Both teams took six corner kicks.
How It Happened
- The Crimson opened the scoring in the sixth minute as Arlotti stepped up to the penalty shot and drove a penalty kick into the right side of the net.
- Harvard extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 12th minute. After Arlotti switched the fields with a long ball to Vician, Vician sent a cross into the penalty area from the right side where Ojea Quintana knocked the ball into the back of the net.
- In the 20th minute, Columbia cut the margin to 2-1 behind a goal from Joao Lima.
- Harvard re-gained a two-goal edge in the 31st minute on Tellado's tally. After Gutierrez headed the ball onwards, Tellado headed the ball past a defender, drove the ball forward, and slotted a shot past the keeper.
