MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Lucian Wood made a career-high seven saves, but Harvard University men's soccer fell at Marquette University, 1-0, on Monday afternoon at Valley Fields on Labor Day.
Competing in its first road match of the 2023 season, the Crimson (0-1-1) battled with the Golden Eagles (4-0-0) under intense heat with an owl goal acting as the only separation between the two sides at the end of 90 minutes.

How It Happened
- Inside the match's first half hour, junior Marko Isakovic generated a pair of chances as he sent a shot off the crossbar in the 12th minute before his free kick in the 20th minute set up a header opportunity for senior James Fahmy.
- Wood made a pair of saves at full extension within 15 minutes of each other in the first half. In the 22nd minute he dove to his right to stop a shot, and then in the 36th minute he reached vertically to parry a shot over the bar.
- Marquette scored the first half's lone goal in the 31st minute on an own goal.
- The Crimson created back-to-back chances in the 58th to 59th minutes as a shot from senior Ale Gutierrez generated a corner which led to a strong header attempt on target from senior Nik White.
- Wood made another extended save in the 61st minute to keep the Crimson within one and came off his line to make a stop in the 83rd minute.
