CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Rugby team will play their first game on home soil this Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. as the Crimson play host to American International College. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Crimson are coming off a win at Quinnipiac and look to start the season 2-0 for the third year in a row on Mignone Field.
What to Know
• Harvard opened the 2023 campaign last weekend with a 55-14 victory over Quinnipiac at the Bobcats' home field, led by an excellent effort from
Cameron Fields and
Chloe Headland. Fields scored three try's and Headland contributed 20 points to the Crimson's total.
• Harvard is captained by seniors
Brogan Mior and
Elianne Sacher and junior
Sofia Hilger this season.
• Head Coach
Mel Denham has entered her seventh season at the helm of the Crimson program. She is assisted by
Justin Moss and
Sylvia Braaten.
• The team has added a talented class of five first-years in
Ava Ference,
Sydney Gottesman,
Maya Hilger,
Neasa McLaughlin and
Courtney Taylor.
• In the 2022 season, the Crimson's home opener featured a 48-19 win over Quinnipiac. They hope to start the season at home with another win in front of a home crowd.
• Harvard has won their home opener every year since the 2016-17 season.
• Harvard last met AIC in the USAR Sevens Collegiate Championship, where the Crimson defeated the Yellow Jackets by a score of 32-0 in the Cup Quarterfinal. They had previously met in the Crimson Sevens Tournament as well, where one Harvard team won 41-0 and another Harvard team fell to AIC 10-19.
• In 15s, Harvard and AIC are tied 1-1 in the all-time series, with the Crimson winning the most recent game in 2018 by a score of 58-7. AIC's win came in 2014 by a score of 19-56.
