CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's ice hockey returned to the ice tonight to open its 2024-25 season by playing host to the No. 8 Connecticut Huskies at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Behind 34 saves from
Emily Davidson, the Crimson (1-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) upset the nationally ranked Huskies (4-4-0, 4-0-0 HEA) to come away with a 1-0 win.

Mia Biotti led a stout defensive effort that saw the Crimson block 21 shots to shut down the top-ranked Huskies.
How It Happened
- The Crimson and the Huskies met on the ice tonight for the 19th time in series history and for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Harvard opened its campaign by hosting the nationally ranked Huskies on its home ice at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
- Both teams were flying up and down the ice as soon as the puck was dropped, playing at a high pace for the opening sequence. Starting goaltender, Emily Davidson, was stellar in the first period starting the game off with three quick saves to deny the Huskies.
- The Crimson stifled the Huskies on the defensive end in the period, holding the foe scoreless for the opening 20 minutes behind 11 saves from Davidson and five blocked shots.
- Gwyn Lapp had the best scoring chance for Harvard in the opening frame, nearly potting a feed from Ensley late in the period. After 20 minutes the teams went into the break locked in a scoreless tie.
- The Crimson came out flying in the second period, creating an early chance for first-year Antonina Dinges who had a chance in the slot stopped.
- Harvard once again dug in on the defensive end at the 14-minute mark in the period after a skater went to the penalty box. After a quick series of shots were stopped by Davidson, Harvard went down another skater as played shifted to 5-on-3 in favor of the Huskies.
- The Crimson went back onto the penalty kill five minutes into the second period and continued its strong play a skater down. After another Crimson skater went to the penalty box, Harvard was forced to play two down for over a minute. The PK unit stumped the Husky powerplay to keep the scoreboard blank. Davidson made four saves on the kill to anchor the Crimson.
- Mia Biotti had the best chance for the Crimson in the second period after using a nifty move to dance around a defender before driving to the net and nearly finding the twine.
- The Crimson penalty kill unit stepped up once more in the second frame as the Crimson held the Huskies off the board in the second period. Davidson brought Bright-Landry to its feet late in the period make a diving cross-crease save to hold off UConn. The teams went back into the locker rooms still knotted in a scoreless tie.
- The Crimson came out swinging in the third period, putting two early shots in front while on the powerplay. Right after the powerplay expired, Biotti dished a pass to Jenna MacDonald at the point to give her a great shooting chance at the blue line. MacDonald threaded a low shot to the far post that found the back of the net to give the Crimson the first goal of the game.
- After Harvard claimed the lead, the team kept its foot on the gas, forcing the puck into the offensive zone to create several more quality scoring chances. The Huskies kept the Crimson off the board in the sequence.
- Down the stretch with Harvard still holding a lead, UConn called a timeout to pull its goalie with just under two minutes left. The Huskies threw everything they had at Davidson and the Crimson, but a number of players blocked shots and Davidson made four saves to preserve the lead and clinch the win for the Crimson.
- Harvard came away with a 1-0 win over the No. 8 team in the nation to open its season with a massive result.

- The Crimson upset the No. 8 Huskies to give the Landry Family Head Coach For Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, Laura Bellamy, her second career win over a top-10 opponent.
- Emily Davidson made 34 saves to record her first career shutout.
- Jenna MacDonald scored the game-winner and the first goal of the season for the Crimson.
- Mia Biotti and Kaley MacDonald picked up the points with assists on the goal.
- The Crimson penalty kill stifled the Huskies, holding them off the scoreboard in all four of their powerplay opportunities.
- Harvard won the faceoff battle, winning 23 draws compared to 20 for UConn.
- Gwyn Lapp was stellar on the dot for Harvard, winning 14 of her 21 faceoff draws.
- The Crimson was fearless in its own defensive zone, blocking 21 shots.
- Mia Biotti blocked a team-high three shots.

Harvard will begin ECAC play next weekend with a trip to Central New York to take on Union (Oct. 25) and RPI (Oct. 26). Puck drop for the matchups are set for 6:00 PM and 3:00 PM, respectively with both games also set to air on ESPN+.
